The Upper Ottawa Valley (UOV) Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) recently concluded its Easter long weekend traffic safety campaign, which ran from April 3 to April 6, 2026. Officers focused on enforcing seatbelt laws, resulting in five charges for motorists failing to buckle up during the four-day initiative.
In addition to seatbelt enforcement, UOV OPP officers monitored other risky driving behaviours, including distracted driving, impaired driving, and aggressive driving, aiming to reduce collisions, injuries, and fatalities on local highways.
Over the course of the campaign, officers laid four impaired driving charges under the Criminal Code, 52 speeding tickets, one charge under the Cannabis Control Act, and four charges under the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act. Responding to more than 280 calls for service, officers emphasized both enforcement and public education throughout the weekend.
The OPP stresses that while the campaign has ended, traffic safety enforcement and education remain a year-round priority for officers across the Upper Ottawa Valley.
