The Auxiliary Unit of the Upper Ottawa Valley detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police has reached a milestone in its efforts to combat fraud through community outreach.
Since late 2022, members have delivered 50 fraud and scam awareness presentations to more than 1,300 residents across the region. Led by Auxiliary Sgt. Paul Leeson, the sessions focus on cybercrime, mass marketing fraud, romance scams and other common schemes.
The 50th presentation was held March 28 at the Pembroke Public Library.
Police say fraud remains one of the fastest-growing crimes in Canada, with more than 112,000 reported cases in 2025 and losses exceeding $704 million.
Officials say education and awareness are key tools in reducing victimization, with presentations aimed at helping residents recognize, report and prevent fraudulent activity.
Community groups interested in hosting a session are encouraged to contact the detachment.
