Deep River will soon have a new Police Chief as their long time head of the force will be hanging it up permanently as of May 31st of this year.
Dean Duchrow came to Deep River in June of 2020 and will be leaving after almost 40 years on the force in various capacities:
Chief Duchrow says that one of his primary goals was to make sure that he left the position in a better state than when he got there and he says that he definitely checked that box off as he prepares to depart the role. Another achievement he is most proud of is the fact that his officers are equipped with the latest up to date tools in order to keep the peace in the small town which is one of the few in Ontario that is left with it’s own police force. In fact, Deep River has the distinction of having the smallest independent police force in the Province.
Despite the technological changes that have come over the years, Duchrow says the job of law enforcement remains relatively constant – catch the criminals – keep the community safe – and maintain and build strong community relations all the while. There is one area of change over the years that is more notable than some to Duchrow and one of which he is intensely proud – education:
Duchrow says that one of the biggest challenges he has faced in Deep River as Chief is keeping the budget in check within a force as small as his while still being able to ensure that his officers have the resources necessary to do the job.
A successor has not as yet been named and Duchrow says that the selection process is ongoing. He goes on to say that when he arrived , he strived to put his personal mark on the position and he is certain that whoever takes over will do well to do the same.
What will The Chief be doing in his retirement? Taking advantage of much of the natural outdoor beauty that he has been fortunate enough to live amongst for so many years but just a bit further down the highway appears to be the answer:
Congratulations goes out to Chief Duchrow and the very best of luck as he and his family head into the next phase of their lives.
