A 59-year-old Laurentian Valley Township resident is facing impaired driving charges after a vehicle struck a building in downtown Pembroke, police say.
Members of the Ontario Provincial Police said the incident happened Saturday at about 1 p.m., when officers with the Upper Ottawa Valley detachment responded to reports of a collision in Pembroke.
Police said the driver, who sustained minor injuries, was taken to hospital, where further testing was conducted after a roadside screening device was used.
As a result of the investigation, Donald McLaughlin, 59, has been charged with operation while impaired — alcohol and drugs — and operation while impaired with a blood alcohol concentration of 80 milligrams or more.
Police said the accused’s driver’s licence was suspended for 90 days and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.
McLaughlin was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Pembroke on May 5.
