Pembroke Mayor Ron Gervais dropped by the myFM studios Wednesday morning with a spring in his step (despite the wintry temperatures) to make an announcement:
Mayor Gervais is the first of what will likely be a handful of people in the region to announce their intention to put their name forward for either the mayor’s chair or a seat on Pembroke City Council. Although the election is several months away, on October 26, many are already considering their plans for political leadership in Pembroke and across The Valley. The official nomination period opens May 1 and closes August 30, 2026, at 2 p.m.
The 2026 Ontario Municipal Election will be one of Canada’s largest democratic exercises. With 444 municipalities, thousands of candidates, and millions of eligible voters, the vote will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of communities across Ontario for years to come.
Gervais decided to make the announcement after receiving several recent inquiries about whether he would be throwing his hat back in the ring.
It’s too early to tell who else will be running for mayor or a seat on council, but Gervais offered some insight into what potential candidates might expect if they choose to run for local political office.
Voters are encouraged to visit elections.on.ca to ensure they are on the voters’ list well ahead of election day.
NOTE* – myFm will be interviewing all candidates (should they choose to) who declare their intentions to run for office.
