A Petawawa man is facing several charges after police responded to a report of a possibly impaired driver allegedly brandishing a handgun in a parking lot.
Members of the Ontario Provincial Police Upper Ottawa Valley detachment say officers were called to an incident in Petawawa at about 6:45 p.m. Thursday.
Police say a suspect vehicle was located a short time later and officers conducted a high-risk traffic stop on Doran Road. One person was taken into custody without incident.
Investigators say an imitation firearm was recovered.
A 19-year-old man living in Petawawa has been charged with possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and operation while impaired by alcohol and drugs under the Criminal Code of Canada.
He is also charged with several offences under the Liquor Licence and Control Act, Cannabis Control Act and Highway Traffic Act, including driving with an open container of liquor, driving while under suspension, and having cannabis readily available in a vehicle.
Police also allege the accused, who is an adult novice driver, had a blood-alcohol level above zero, and was operating a vehicle without a validated permit and failed to notify authorities of a change of address.
The man was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Pembroke on April 21.
