The County of Renfrew has declared a Significant Weather Event as a prolonged period of freezing rain is expected to affect the region.
The declaration, issued under Ontario’s Minimum Maintenance Standards for Municipal Highways, warns residents to exercise caution when travelling, as roads and walkways may become icy and slippery.
Officials say the notice does not indicate road closures or reduced service, but standard winter maintenance timelines are temporarily suspended until the event ends.
Environment Canada warns the freezing rain could last into Wednesday, with ice buildup of 10 to 20 mm possible, leading to slippery roads, fallen trees, and potential utility outages. A notice will follow once the event is lifted.
