Local police officers are hosting an event later this month to help protect residents from scammers.
The Upper Ottawa Valley OPP detachment has announced a fraud and scam awareness presentation being held at the Pembroke Public Library.
News of the presentation comes after a series of recent fraud incidents in the area, including police impersonation scams, spear phishing and cheque fraud.
Officers say the presentation will cover cybercrime awareness, romance and emergency scams, mass marketing fraud and various other prevalent scams, as well as how to avoid becoming a victim.
It’s being held on March 28th, 2026 from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. at the library. Participation is free, but anyone interested in attending is urged to register by emailing the library or calling at 613-732-8844.
Anyone who believes they’ve been a victim of fraud is urged to contact the Upper Ottawa valley OPP detachment or the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre.
