Who else but the police would warn you about a Police Impersonation Scam?
OPP’s East Region are alterting the public that fraudsters posing as police officers are trying to bilk you out of your hard-earned cash.
It’s important to note that Police will never ask for money, cryptocurrency, gift cards, or to make transfers over the phone.
A rule of thumb is to never share banking info, PINs, or personal details with unsolicited callers.
Officers will never threaten arrest or demand immediate payment.
If the caller puts you under pressure, pause and speak with someone you trust before acting.
Should you get a suspicious call claiming to be from the OPP, contact the OPP non-emergency line at 1-888-310-1122.
