A 24-year-old Cobourg, Ont., resident is facing a provincial offence charge after a single-vehicle crash in Laurentian Valley Township last week that caused a localized power outage.
Members of the Ontario Provincial Police Upper Ottawa Valley detachment say the collision happened Feb. 20 at about 6:40 p.m. at the intersection of Biggs Road and Forest Lea Road.
Police say a vehicle travelling southbound on Biggs Road lost control, slid through the intersection and struck a hydro pole, severing it.
The driver, who was the lone occupant of the vehicle, was not injured.
Officers allege there was open alcohol inside the vehicle. The driver has been charged with driving a motor vehicle with an unsealed container of liquor, contrary to Ontario’s Liquor Licence Control Act.
Hydro crews and the Laurentian Valley Fire Department attended the scene to address downed wires and ensure public safety. The damaged pole caused a power outage in the area that lasted several hours, police said.
