Papa and Friends
Papa had another successful walk this past Sunday at the PMC, with a strong turnout of family, friends and community supporters to kick off the event. Two pipers from the Renfrew Pipe Band led participants on the first lap around the arena — a highlight Papa especially enjoyed, according to daughter Crystal, in honour of his Scottish family heritage.
Walkers and hockey parents alike made the most of the bake sale offerings. myFM station manager Melissa Siegel took part in the walk, and Papa, with his usual charm, shared one of the secrets of his longevity.
The fundraiser in support of the Pembroke Regional Hospital Foundation took place Sunday between 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m., with residents encouraged to drop in at any point to take part.
Russell “Papa” Mackay pays very close attention to his diet, as well as walking, in order to keep his strength and stamina up. Fruit is number one on the list, says the 88-year-old, who intends to keep walking for many years to come. The total raised has yet to be determined, as donations are still coming in.
