Despite announcing plans to shut down earlier this month, a local newspaper is now set to continue operating under new ownership.
The Eganville Leader, which has been in publication for over 100 years, has been sold to London Publishing Incorporated, following a deal between current publisher Gerald Tracy and London Publishing President Ray Stanton and Aylmer Express publisher John Hueston.
“Ray has always held the Leader in high esteem, and has been a trusted colleague and good friend,” Tracey said in the latest edition of the newspaper announcing the deal.
“I knew he could be a potential buyer, but, true to his character, he refrained from intervening while other parties were negotiating.”
According to Tracey, the paper is expected to continue operating with minimal changes going forward.
The Eganville Leader was founded in 1902. Tracey’s family purchased the business in 1944. Plans for the paper to shut down were announced on February 6th, before Stanton and Hueston made their deal to buy it.
