Pembroke Councillor Ian Kuehl says this year’s Rural Ontario Municipal Association (ROMA) conference had a heavy focus on budgeting and spending.
Councillor Kuehl attended the annual event this year alongside Deputy Mayor Brian Abdallah.
The first of the city’s three delegations reportedly saw Kuehl and Abdallah sit down with the Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing to discuss issues like stagnant subdivisions.
Kuehl said ensuring these projects move forward will help improve the city’s tax base and alleviate pressure on the local housing system.
Other discussions during that delegation included conversations about consistency in provincial funding for municipalities.
The second delegation, meanwhile, involved conversations about replacing aging recreation infrastructure with the Minister of Sport.
The final delegation saw Kuehl and company meet with the Solicitor General to discuss rising OPP fees and the costs associated with court security and prisoner transportation.
Kuehl said all the ministers his team met with during the ROMA conference took their concerns seriously, and heard similar concerns from various other communitiies.
The conference ran from January 18th to 20th in Toronto.
