Representatives from the Senators Community Foundation, Ottawa Senators Hockey Club, Roger Neilson Children’s Hospice and CHEO Foundation gathered this week for the official naming and opening of the Senators Foundation Kitchen at the hospice.
The project is supported through part of a previously announced $1-million commitment from the Senators Community Foundation, with funds directed toward upgrading the hospice kitchen — a central space where families can prepare meals and spend time together while receiving pediatric palliative and grief care.
The Ottawa Senators have supported Roger Neilson Children’s Hospice for two decades, helping ensure services remain available to children, youth and families across the region. Hospice officials say the planned improvements will make the kitchen more functional and accessible, allowing it to better serve families for years to come.
The hospice was created to honour the late Roger Neilson, a longtime NHL coach remembered for his compassion, creativity and commitment to children and families. Hospice officials say the partnership with the Senators reflects those values.
CHEO Foundation president and chief executive officer Steve Read, who served as emcee, thanked the Senators organization for its continued support of children’s health initiatives across the Ottawa-Gatineau region.
