Carefor resident Melanie Freeman wrapped up her fundraising campaign that began late last year and came to a close this past Christmas Day.
Melanie called her campaign “Care for Seniors with Melanie,” and she smashed her expected goal of $12,000, raising a grand total of $20,000.
Melanie walked a total of 325,695 steps — roughly the distance from Pembroke to North Bay — to raise the funds through various initiatives, all aimed at providing additional goods and programs for her and her fellow Carefor residents to enjoy.
Melanie recalled when she was at myFM back in November, the morning after her interview:
She said her favourite part of the process was the amazing people she met who supported her and her cause, adding that it means the world to her to live among so many kind and generous people.
Steve Perry, president and CEO of Carefor, served as emcee for the presentation. He said that in his 28 years at the helm of the organization, he has never seen such enthusiasm for fundraising.
Among the programs Melanie helped support are a new electric piano, painting parties, pet therapy, and transportation to events, to name a few.
Melanie is already thinking about next year’s campaign, which is sure to be even more successful than this one.
