Christmas trees will be collected curbside in the Town of Petawawa during the week of Jan. 5 on residents’ regular collection day. The City of Pembroke and the Township of Laurentian Valley will also collect trees that week, weather permitting, with any major snowstorm prompting a rescheduled pickup.
Trees are collected separately from other materials and must be free of lights and decorations. Artificial trees, trees placed in plastic bags, or trees set out in green carts will not be collected.
In Petawawa and Pembroke, curbside trees are delivered to the Ottawa Valley Waste Recovery Centre, where they are chipped and used in the composting process. Laurentian Valley repurposes collected trees as decorative features along the LV Four Seasons Trail during skating season.
Residents are reminded not to place trees on or in snowbanks. Public works officials say frozen trees can create safety hazards for collection crews and interfere with snow removal.
Christmas trees are also accepted free of charge for drop-off at the Ottawa Valley Waste Recovery Centre throughout January.
