The Upper Ottawa Valley OPP has a new Acting Inspector in place, following the recent departure of Stephan Neufeld. Her name is Sarah Darraugh.
A second-generation officer, Darraugh’s father is still active with the OPP out of the Killaloe Detachment, but policing was not her immediate choice of vocation despite the bloodline.
Darraugh got her start in policing with the Toronto Police Service, where she worked for five years before transferring to the OPP in Renfrew, where she spent an additional five years. A promotion to Sergeant in Pembroke was the next step in her career a little over four years ago, until March of this year, when she was promoted to Staff Sergeant in Killaloe.
Sarah tells myFM that initially her father was surprised by her decision to join the force, but eventually warmed up to the idea:
While not technically her father’s boss, she says the experience of working with her dad was a real highlight of her career:
Sarah knows she has some big shoes to fill over the next few months as Interim Inspector and is well aware of the high standard set by Neufeld over the years. Pending receipt of her Inspector’s credit, which she says is forthcoming, Darraugh does intend to throw her hat in the ring for the full-time job when the selection process gets underway early in 2026.
