UPDATE: PEMBROKE LUMBERKINGS / HOCKEYTOWN CANADA
First, to everyone who has commented or reached out — THANK YOU
. It’s incredible to see how many people have been affected by the Armstrongs over the years.
During my time as a player for the Pembroke Lumberkings (2006/2007 & 2007/2008), I had the opportunity to play under Sheldon Keefe, young and recently retired from the NHL.
He could be vocal and demanding, but he was always fair and never abused or mistreated us.
He challenged us at a high pace, holding us to extremely high standards.
While I sometimes resented the intensity, I never once felt unsafe or disrespected.
Looking back, I can genuinely appreciate the effort Sheldon put into developing a group of 25 young players. He showed up every day, worked harder than anyone I’ve seen in this sport, and serves as a powerful example of perseverance, hard work, and integrity.
As ex-head coach of the Lumberkings, the situation I am addressing was extremely difficult to navigate. After three months trying to handle things internally, I am now speaking out publicly to force meaningful action.
Hockey Canada acted immediately to save face, but as ex-head coach, I know the full scope of what went on daily. The CCHL has not adequately addressed these issues — the focus should be on player safety, not image or money.

As I said in my last post, my wife once asked what people in Pembroke are like — now I know: people of Pembroke / Renfrew County are people of INTEGRITY with a touch of Southern charm.
Unpaid wages
No termination letter
Lack of reimbursement for items required under my contract and LMIA 2-year work visa
I will continue to hold those responsible accountable. Integrity above all else.I will continue to hold those responsible accountable. Integrity above all else.
Ottawa Valley, Pembroke, parents of hockey players, players themselves — now is the time to take power back from those who have abused it. Put it in the hands of players, coaches, volunteers, and everyone involved in this game we love.
