Earlier this year, Nuclear Laboratory Partners of Canada Inc. was named the preferred bidder to manage CNL. NLPC is a partnership between BWXT Government Group, Amentum Environment & Energy, and Kinectrics, with Battelle Memorial Institute serving as a key subcontractor.
The transaction, originally scheduled to close on September 13, 2025, was delayed pending regulatory review by the Competition Bureau. Last week, the bureau informed AECL it does not plan to challenge the deal, clearing the way for Nuclear Laboratory Partners of Canada Inc. to assume leadership of Canadian Nuclear Laboratories on December 11, 2025.
Officials says that CNL itself will remain unchanged, with its mandate and core missions intact. The organization will continue to operate AECL sites and assets, focusing on science and technology, environmental remediation, and the revitalization of Chalk River Laboratories. While executive leadership will shift under the new parent company, day-to-day teams at CNL will remain the same.
