OPP Inspector Stephan Neufeld is moving on through the ranks of the venerable service and will vacate his position as Detachment Commander for the Upper Ottawa Valley OPP effective December 15th.
Neufeld will become the next OPP East Region Superintendent, having spent the past six months working alongside the current Chief Superintendent Lisa Wilhelm. Neufeld has been in his current position for eight years, which makes him the longest-serving Detachment Commander in OPP history. Neufeld says that he feels that the time to make the shift is right:
Neufeld says that he is very proud of the work he has done here in The Valley and knows that whoever steps into the role will be able to take the region to the next level. Neufeld pondered retirement as a possible option before this opportunity arose, but he says that he does not feel that he has maxed out his contribution to policing just yet:
Neufeld says that he is “grateful beyond words” that he is still able to work for the OPP in such a capacity. Neufeld will have 15 East Region detachments reporting to him, and he is up for the task as he understands very well how the inner workings of the OPP operate after so many years on the force:
Neufeld will take on the new position as of December 15th, while the process of finding his replacement will begin shortly after his transition to the new role.
Congratulations, Inspector!
