Full water service is expected to be restored across Pembroke and Laurentian Valley on Saturday, following repairs to the major watermain break that occurred in late November.
During the repair process, crews discovered the pipe in the break area was in poorer condition than anticipated, requiring additional work and extending the project timeline by several days.
Today, crews will fill in the excavation site and begin refilling the water line. Water samples will also be taken to meet Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks requirements, with test results expected Friday.
On Saturday, the City will reopen all valves, disconnect the temporary water service at Miramichi Lodge, and return the home to full service. By Saturday evening, all users on the system are expected to be back to normal operations.
Residents are reminded to continue reducing water use as the final stages of work are completed. Lower consumption helps maintain a stable supply for all users and ensures adequate water for firefighting and for vulnerable facilities, including the Pembroke Regional Hospital and seniors’ residences.
Simple ways to conserve include combining laundry loads, choosing shorter showers over baths, and avoiding non-essential water use such as car washing.
The City thanks all water system users for their cooperation since the break occurred. The water remains safe to drink, though some users may continue to experience reduced pressure or volume until repairs conclude.
Further updates will be shared on the City’s website, pembroke.ca, as well as on Facebook and Instagram.
