A couple weeks ago myFM spoke with Local farmer and Admaston/Bromley deputy mayor Angela Field to hear about Field running for the Ontario Federation of Agriculture’s (OFA) three-year term director-at-large.
While Field did not secure the three-year seat, she did manage to capitalize on another director-at-large leaving their post to finish off the remaining term.
In the end Field did get elected for director-at-large and she will hold that position for one year.
Field said she was pleasantly surprised with the support she received despite the loss.
Now that she’s in the hot seat Field has already got to work in her new position.
As she mentioned Field will be headed to Queen’s Park in Toronto next week for some discussions with various ministers regarding the agriculture industry.
Field said sitting on notable boards within larger organizations will provide a greater opportunity for her voice to be heard.
Next week’s discussions will include land use planning, water protections, infrastructure processing and the labour shortage in the agriculture industry.
Field said she is very excited to sink her teeth into these litigations.
Throughout her farming career Field has also been a big advocate for women in the agricultural industry.
She said many non-farmers don’t think of farming as anything but a “man’s job” but Field and others in the industry know of the huge impact women make in farming.
Field thanks her peers for their support, and she hopes to extend that assistance to the women that may need it.
Field was the only candidate in the running who represents Eastern Ontario, and vows to give Northern Ontario a larger platform as well.
