An Arnprior resident is sponsoring a national petition urging the Canadian government to get serious about the issue of Ukrainian children being abducted by the Russian invader, removed to Russian Federation soil, and re-educated to emerge as loyal Russian citizens in later life.
Peter Chabursky is a Rotarian charged with strengthening international links between Rotary Clubs in Ukraine and Canada, and his petition has been sponsored by Alberta MP Glen Motz for consideration on the floor of the House of Commons.
That’s already a lot of activity for a petition that’s just over a week old- but the issue has been going on since the Russian invasion of eastern Ukraine in 2022.
Chabursky says the situation isn’t just hearsay, there’s evidentiary proof.
The petition can be signed by Canadian citizens or permanent residents of this country- and there’s an eerie similarity to the 19th and 20th century practise of residential schools in our nation vis-a-vis what’s occurring in today’s Ukraine.
The abducted children were the charity cause of the Carleton Place Ukrainian Festival in 2024- and even after a flurry of conversation this past weekend about a potential truce, the kids merited only a single sentence at the end of a proposed text.
Chabursky says finding the petition is not difficult- and signing it is easy.
The Rotarian says the important thing is now that you know about it, sign it.
