Sabine Mersmann - PRH President & CEO Lana Gorr - Walk for Her Founder & Organizer Roger Martin - PRH Foundation Executive Director Leigh Costello PRH Foundation Community Fundraising Specialist
The Pembroke Regional Hospital Foundation has highlighted the efforts of Walk for Her organizer Lana Gorr, whose leadership helped raise $134,658 for local cancer care. Gorr launched the event in 2021 to support women facing cancer and improve access to treatment in the region. The walk has since grown into a major community fundraiser, with proceeds supporting the hospital’s Chemotherapy Unit and equipment for breast cancer surgery.
Lana talks about how the idea came about:
Within six weeks Lana created the first “Walk For Her” with a goal of raising $10,000 which turned out to be $13,000 in total.
A mere eight days later Maria sadly passed away.
As if that was not enough to spur Gorr on to continue with her crusade, an even more pressing reason came to light:
This past October the amount raised was $44,000 bringing the grand total for the past five years to $134,000 all going to the Pembroke Regional Hospital for cancer research.
Lana notes that the husband of her late friend Maria who inspired the event attends every time with a candle bearing the picture of his late wife and Lana takes comfort in knowing that her friend is indeed there with every step.
the next event will be held on October 3rd, 2026 and will be held at a new venue, says Gorr:
Lana notes that PRH has made some changes to their website that she would like to pass on to everyone well ahead of next year’s event:
See you next October!
