Rick Power and myFM Station Manager Melissa Siegel
The Pembroke Branch of the Royal Canadian Legion recognized one of their own members last week and the accolades were more than well deserved.
Long time Legion Member Rick Power was awarded the Ontario Veterans Award for Community Service Excellence for his tireless work in spearheading the Veterans crosswalk project earlier this year.
Rick has been a member of The Legion Branch 72 for 62 years and one day he had an idea that he felt needed to come to fruition:
It was in April of this year when Rick approached Council about funding for the project and the City kicked in $5,000 or what was approximately half of the total cost. The remainder of the monies needed for the crosswalk were raised by a partnership of The Legion Branch 72 and myFM radio through the “104 Hearts” Campaign which was the brainchild of MBC President Jon Pole and myFM Station Manager Melissa Siegel.
Rick was surprised by the award which was given to him following the Remembrance Day ceremony back at The Legion. Rick will likely never forget that day:
For those of us who know Rick you would say that he is a humble man and for him receiving an award of this kind from his own people meant more than he could express:
Power received two certificates that day, one signed by MPP Billy Denault and the other from Ontario Premiere Doug Ford. He also wants to thank Brady Stewart, Honours and Awards Chairman for the Chapter. Rick says that he has already picked out a spot on his wall at home for the awards that will go along with the many other accolades he has received over the years.
Congratulations from all of us, Rick!
