As the holiday season once again approaches, Pembroke can look forward to the return of the Pembroke Community Choir as they announce their Seasonal offering.
This year they will perform John Rutter’s “Magnificat”. Composed in 1990 with its premiere taking place on May 26 that year at Carnegie Hall in New York, the musical was inspired by the lively Marian festivals of Spain and Mexico.
Gerald LaRonde, Director of The Pembroke Community Choir explains the significance of the well known work:
The Magnificat will comprise the entire first half of the performance with the second half dedicated to seven or eight of Rutter’s other well known works to round out the evening.
The Choir dates back to the 1950’s and has been going strong ever since, going through many changes over the years but staying ever true to the original spirit of community involvement. Gerald notes that the ensemble is always welcoming new voices regardless of experience:
There are two performances this season, both at Calvin United Church. The first on Saturday November 29th at 1:30PM and the second on Sunday November 30th at 7:00PM. Tickets for both performances are $15 in advance or $20 at the door with children 13 and under free.
See you there!
