How would you like to enjoy a nice juicy burger and help out United Way at the same time? The organization has partnered with 20 restaurants across Ottawa, Renfrew County, Lanark County, and Prescott-Russell to craft unique burgers featured on their menus all November long, with $2 from every burger sold donated to United Way East Ontario.
They call it the “Ultimate Burger Battle” and Dennise Taylor-Gilhen, Interim President and CEO for United Way East Ontario has the enviable job of making her way across the County and beyond in search of this year’s winner. Taylor-Gilhen tells us how the challenge came to be:
The Ultimate Burger Battle is a powerful example of how United Way unites caring communities to tackle complex social challenges, helping people find meaningful and lasting solutions. Taylor-Gilhen highlights the fact that it’s a wonderful opportunity to create synergies amongst small business in given regions and add a little competition to the mix to keep it interesting:
Luiana Mendes is the owner of Sopa Restaurant here in Pembroke and when she looked into the United Way Mission Statement she knew that they were a good fit for the type of organization she wanted to get behind:
An equal amount of thought and consideration was put into the choice of burger that Mendes decided to concoct for the challenge and it also fits with her multi-cultural heritage:
The United Way Ultimate Burger Battle runs from November 1-30, 2025. For more information please click on the link below.
