A group of thieves escaped following an overnight break-in in Pembroke Thursday, but were later caught down the highway.
Upper Ottawa Valley OPP advise that just after 2AM yesterday officers responded to a report of a break and enter at a local business in the 800 block of Pembroke St. East.
Prior to police arrival the suspects fled.
Shortly afterwards, the involved vehicle was located by the Renfrew OPP on Highway 17.
It was stopped and five people inside fled on foot.
They were tracked by an OPP Canine Unit and the Emergency Response Team.
All five individuals were located, arrested and taken in.
Abdullmoez BACKAH, 18 years old from Ottawa, Fidely KAPEND, 18 years old from Alfred-Plantagenet, Zion TAHIAMALA-ATKINSON, 19 years old from Leaminton, Abdul TSHIBUYI, 21 years old from Ottawa, and a youth who can’t be named have all been jointly charged with several counts relating to the theft:
Break and enter a place to commit an indictable offence, two counts of Possession of property obtained by crime over $5000, Mischief over $5000, Possession of property obtained by crime under $5000, Disguise with intent, Obstructing a peace officer, and Dangerous operation.
TAHIAMALA-ATKINSON has also been charged with fail to comply with release order.
The youth was also charged with failuew to comply.
All parties were remanded in custody following bail hearings; They will have further court appearances at a later date.
Police were able to recover over $20,000 worth of stolen fragrances.
