Young athletes from across the Ottawa Valley returned to a popular venue for one more race in Renfrew.
The Upper Ottawa Valley High School Athletic Association welcomed around 240 students to Ma-te-Way Park for Friday’s cross-country running championship, pitting schools from Renfrew County against each other on a course that Renfrew Collegiate Institute coach Kathleen Mottershead says has hosted some of Ontario’s best over the years.
Runners were treated to perfect racing weather on Friday: cool and sunny conditions that made each race a true test of each athlete’s ability to navigate the winding terrain inside the park.
That being said, Madame Mottershead points out that everyone in the running was ready in case conditions took a turn for the worse.
Coaches from all schools taking part were keeping a keen eye on their team’s form through the various challenges Ma-te-Way Park presents, as Mottershead says the day was a chance for each
Top runners from every school in the running on Friday will be heading to Kingston for the EOSSAA Championships this Thursday, October 23rd.
