The Pembroke Fire Department (PFD) received a report of a structure fire on Wallace St. at approximately 10:07 am, Sunday morning. PFD initially responded with one truck and the duty crew, but quickly upgraded response, calling in more resources and partner agencies.
On arrival, the fire, located in the rear of the home, had already breached the bedroom window and was advancing into the roof and attic space. Initial reports indicated that an occupant was still inside the home. As firefighters prepared enter the home for search and rescue, they were notified that all members of the family were accounted for. The firefighters then changed tactics and performed a strong transitional attack that quickly extinguished the fire. Unfortunately, the home suffered extensive smoke and heat damage. One of the occupants was transported to Pembroke Regional Hospital for assessment by the Renfrew County Paramedics. Two other occupants were assessed at the scene.
The PFD would like to extend our sincere thanks to the Renfrew County Paramedics, the OPP, and Ottawa River Power for their assistance.
The home had working smoke alarms which alerted the occupants to the fire. Working smoke alarms save lives. Red Cross was notified to assist the occupants.
A total of 13 career firefighters and 10 volunteer firefighters attended the incident with 5 PFD apparatus responding to the fire.
The PFD is currently investigating the cause and origin of this fire.
