Letter to the Editor from MPP Billy Denault Renfrew–Nipissing–Pembroke
I have heard from many local residents expressing concerns regarding the closure of the ServiceOntario centre in Killaloe, and I want to thank everyone who reached out. This message serves as a follow-up to those concerns and provides information on what ServiceOntario is doing, how the transition is being managed, and next steps.
The Killaloe ServiceOntario centre closed on August 15, 2025, following the independent service provider’s decision to end their contract early—well before its original expiry on January 31, 2027. This was a business decision by the provider, not a government-directed closure. I want to thank Judy for her many years of service locally and wish her all the best in retirement.
Following this news, my office reached out to the Ministry of Public and Business Service Delivery and Procurement, as well as Minister Stephen Crawford, to understand how ServiceOntario is managing the transition and ensuring residents continue to have access to local services.
ServiceOntario conducted a community assessment and determined that the nearby Eganville centre is well-equipped to handle the annual volume of approximately 15,000 transactions previously managed in Killaloe. The Eganville location has been upgraded to offer the full suite of ServiceOntario services, including those that previously required travel to Killaloe. These improvements ensure residents continue to receive accessible, reliable, and comprehensive services.
ServiceOntario is also encouraging local individuals or organizations interested in providing services to participate under the new Vendor of Record (VOR) model. Details on how to participate in the competitive procurement process are available through the Ontario Tenders Portal. I encourage local individuals and organizations to consider applying.
This is part of ServiceOntario’s modernization of its in-person service delivery through the new Vendor of Record (VOR) model, which offers service providers predictable revenue, performance incentives, and flexibility to adapt to community needs—while supporting local businesses and enhancing customer experience.
As your local Member of Provincial Parliament, I remain committed to ensuring that constituents across Renfrew—Nipissing—Pembroke continue to receive high-quality public services and that local communities are supported through sustainable service delivery. I would like to thank the Ministry of Public and Business Service Delivery and Procurement, and Minister Crawford, for their assistance during this transition. Our office will continue to monitor the situation as it unfolds.
Sincerely,
Billy Denault, MPP Renfrew-Nipissing-Pembroke
