“During the Spring large item collection, we continued to see incorrect items set-out.” States Brian Lewis, City of Pembroke, Director of Operations. “Tires, wood, material in cardboard boxes or garbage bags will not be picked-up during large item collection.”
Hazardous materials such as batteries, propane tanks, and paint cans are also not collected. Laurie Benjamin, General Manager of Ottawa Valley Waste Recovery Centre explains why. “Batteries and flammable liquids must be removed from items set-out for collection. When they are not, they pose a serious fire risk, not only during collection but also when the material is processed at the Ottawa Valley Waste Recovery Centre.”
