A registered nurse at Pembroke Regional Hospital was assaulted by a patient in the emergency department on June 20, raising concerns over staff safety.
The Ontario Nurses’ Association says the nurse was attacked at the nurses’ station and lost consciousness. A complaint has been filed with the Ministry of Labour, and the nurse has pressed charges with the hospital’s support.
“We want to express how sorry we are that this event took place,” the hospital said in a statement to CTV News Ottawa. “Our thoughts were with our injured staff member as well as all staff and physicians who were both affected and impacted.”
The hospital says additional support resources have been made available to staff.
