The Pembroke Regional Hospital is experiencing delays and some appointment cancellations following a cybersecurity incident earlier this week.
Hospital officials say a preliminary investigation has found no evidence that patient information was compromised. “We take privacy and security very seriously,” said PRH President and CEO Sabine Mersmann. “Unfortunately, due to the rapidly evolving nature of cyber threats, it is not always possible to prevent against all forms of attacks.”
Systems were taken offline Tuesday morning as part of the hospital’s incident response plan. Third-party cybersecurity experts were brought in immediately to contain the incident and begin a forensic investigation.
While some procedures and appointments have been delayed or cancelled, the hospital says affected patients are being contacted directly. “Many had to quickly return to previous paper-based practices, all while ensuring that patient safety remained the top priority,” said Mersmann, thanking staff for their dedication.
Full system restoration could be completed as early as next week.
