The Krista Johnson Memorial Run goes this Sunday may 8th which features a 2K, 5K and 10K run as well as a half marathon for those who are a bit more seasoned. In support of the Krista Johnson Memorial Fund, this annual event draws hundreds of runners and supports the Youth Wellness Centre and promises to be even bigger this year.
Krista Johnson was deeply committed to the Pembroke community and passionate about encouraging youth to get active. Her love for health, fitness, and giving back continues to inspire. Since 2013, the annual Krista Johnson Memorial Run has honoured her legacy, bringing people together to move and raise funds for causes and programs that reflect her values.
Laurie Johnson, Director of the Elevate Youth Wellness Centre in Pembroke and Mother of Krista tells myFM why this run is held each year:
Prior to the passing of Krista, the run had a different name and benefactor than today which Laurie explains was what prompted carrying on the spirit of the event in Krista’s honor:
The day is fast approaching but Laurie tells us that there is still time to get involved:
The half marathon kicks off at 8:30 AM Sunday and bib pick up will be on Saturday between 3PM and 5PM at the gazebo/soccer field at Riverside Park.
