The Pembroke Carefor Community Garden’s annual rain barrel sales campaign concluded today with the final pick-up of purchased barrels at the Pembroke and Area Community Centre. The campaign, which supports the garden’s ongoing expenses—particularly those related to the St. Joseph Food Bank gardens—was met with enthusiastic community support.
Campaign chair Brian Abdallah expressed his delight with this year’s results. “We’re thrilled with the response,” Abdallah shared. “There are only eight rain barrels left for sale, which is a testament to our community’s commitment to sustainability and supporting local food initiatives.”
Abdallah extended heartfelt thanks to everyone who purchased a rain barrel, noting that their contributions make a direct impact on the community garden’s ability to provide fresh produce to those in need. “Your support is truly appreciated,” he said.
He also gave special recognition to the dedicated volunteers who made the event possible: Ian Paterson, Kevin Cliche, and Ron Gervais, who assisted with the busy pick-up days on Friday and Saturday. Thanks were also given to the Parks and Recreation staff, whose assistance at the sales site was invaluable.
“The rain barrel campaign is a true example of positive partnerships building community,” Abdallah emphasized. The collaboration between volunteers, city staff, and local residents highlights the power of working together for a common cause.
For those who missed out, there are still a few rain barrels available for purchase—seven “Ugly Duckling” terra cotta models and one grey “Ugly Duckling” model—priced at $60 each. There are also two diverters for sale at $40 each. Interested buyers can contact Brian Abdallah at 613-735-6821 ext. 1392 or Ron Gervais at ext. 1399. Photos and details about the barrels can be found at rainbarrel.ca.
With another successful campaign in the books, the Pembroke Carefor Community Garden looks forward to a fruitful growing season, thanks to the ongoing support of its generous community.
