A major fire destroyed a home on Laurentian Drive in Petawawa on the evening of Tuesday, May 27. At around 5:30 p.m., the Town of Petawawa Fire Department responded to reports of a fully involved structure fire in the 500 block of the street.
When crews arrived, they were met with heavy smoke and flames that had already spread throughout most of the building, including the roof. Firefighters launched a strong defensive attack to contain and control the fire. In total, 30 firefighters and six fire trucks were on the scene.
One person was treated for minor injuries by the County of Renfrew Paramedics and was taken to hospital. Thankfully, everyone inside the home managed to evacuate safely.
Despite the quick response, the home was completely destroyed. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
Emergency services from several agencies responded, including the Garrison Fire Department, Upper Ottawa Valley OPP, Military Police, and Hydro One.
The Town of Petawawa Fire Department expressed its gratitude to all agencies that assisted in the response.
This incident highlights the importance of fire safety and emergency preparedness. Residents are reminded to check smoke alarms regularly and have an escape plan in place.
