The Pembroke Regional Hospital Foundation is celebrating a huge success after this year’s Annual Heroes Run for Healthcare, presented by Canadian Nuclear Laboratories (CNL), raised a record total of $57,507.60! The event brought 496 runners and walkers to Pembroke’s downtown core in support of the hospital’s highest priority equipment needs.
Roger Martin, Executive Director of the PRH Foundation, said the day was incredible, with over 500 people in attendance, including guests, volunteers, and participants. “Our community was the superhero for sure,” he shared with pride.
The top fundraiser prize of $500 went to Brent Dupuis, who raised more than $3,187—his fourth consecutive year winning the title. Algonquin College also made a major impact, raising over $5,380 in honour of Jamie Bramburger, led by team captain Patricia Kim.
The event included a 2K Superhero Run for kids, sponsored by Bradley Law, with 242 young participants. Tammy Blackmore, organizer of the 2K run, said it was heartwarming to see so many happy children greeted by costumed superheroes at the finish line.
The 5K timed run, sponsored by MacEwen Petroleum, had 254 participants, with each runner receiving a medal provided by Bergeron Clifford Injury Lawyers. Timing was sponsored by Dr. Christy Natsis & Associates.
Winners were awarded in various age categories, with Stuart Macpherson named top overall male and Ryan Johnston top overall female. Other standout finishers included Henry Bursey, Ethan De Jong, Molly Liu, Camille-Audree Lefebvre, Patricia Kim, and Val Chafe.
PRHF Community Fundraising Specialist Leigh Costello highlighted the community spirit behind the event. “This run celebrates all the heroes in our region—from neighbours and parents to first responders. None of it would be possible without our incredible sponsors and supporters.”
The event was made possible by the generous support of many local businesses and organizations, including CNL, MacEwen Petroleum, Bradley Law, Bergeron Clifford Injury Lawyers, myFM, Best Western Pembroke, and dozens more.
Event Chair Scott Coombes thanked everyone involved and expressed excitement for next year. “On behalf of the entire planning team, thank you to everyone who sponsored, volunteered, ran, and donated. We look forward to doing it again next year.”
