Pembroke Regional Hospital is celebrating National Volunteer Week from April 27 to May 3 by thanking the nearly 200 volunteers who play a vital role in supporting patients, families, and hospital staff.
This year’s theme, “Volunteers Make Waves,” highlights the impact that volunteers have across Canada. At PRH, volunteers are involved in many areas, including the PRH Auxiliary, Board of Directors, PRH Foundation, Patient and Family Advisory Council, Spiritual Care Program, and general Volunteer Services.
“Our volunteers are the backbone of our hospital community,” said PRH President and CEO Sabine Mersmann. “Their dedication and generosity inspire us every day.”
Volunteers often serve as the first point of contact for patients and visitors, offering a friendly welcome and helpful guidance. Their contributions also include fundraising, patient support, program assistance, and sharing ideas to improve services. Their work helps PRH provide high-quality care and a wide range of services for patients and families.
“Many of our volunteers humbly say, ‘I’m just a volunteer,’ but their impact is truly profound,” Mersmann added. “Thanks to their efforts, we can continue delivering excellent care to our community.”
To recognize their service, PRH will host a volunteer appreciation dinner on May 13 at the Clarion Hotel in Pembroke. The event will celebrate all volunteers and highlight those reaching long-service milestones.
PRH encourages the public to join them in thanking their volunteers for their time, skills, and commitment to the hospital and the region.
