The Ministry of Natural Resources – Pembroke District has issued a Flood Warning for areas along the Ottawa River, notably between Pembroke and Britannia, effective until Friday, May 2, 2025.
This warning indicates that flooding is imminent or occurring within specific watercourses and municipalities. Recent rainfall and warmer temperatures have accelerated snowmelt, leading to rising water levels and flows in the Ottawa River. Residents in flood-prone areas are advised to take necessary precautions to protect their properties and monitor local conditions closely.
The Renfrew County and District Health Unit advises residents with private wells affected by floodwaters to take precautions to ensure their water is safe for consumption. Contaminated well water can pose serious health risks.
Homeowners should disinfect their wells and have the water tested for bacteria. Water sample bottles are available from the Health Unit, and testing is provided free of charge. Until test results confirm the water is safe, it should be boiled for at least one minute before use. For more information, visit rcdhu.com
