A single-vehicle crash in the Township of Laurentian Valley has led to impaired driving charges. On April 28, at around 6:45 p.m., officers from the Upper Ottawa Valley OPP Detachment responded to a report of a vehicle that had struck a garage at a residence. The investigation revealed the driver was operating the vehicle on the property when it hit the building. No injuries were reported.
Police used a roadside screening device and later brought the driver to the detachment for further testing. As a result, 67-year-old Marty Newton of Laurentian Valley has been charged with operation while impaired by alcohol and operation while impaired with a blood alcohol concentration over 80 mg.
The accused had his driver’s licence suspended for 90 days. The vehicle was towed and impounded for seven days. Newton was released and is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Pembroke on May 20.
