A Pembroke driver is facing criminal charges after a single-vehicle collision in the Upper Ottawa Valley. On March 13, around 9:00 a.m., the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a crash involving a pickup truck and a streetlight pole at the intersection of Angus Campbell Drive and Cockburn Crescent in Pembroke.
The investigation revealed that the truck, traveling north on Angus Campbell Drive, lost control, left the road, and struck the light pole. The driver, the only person in the vehicle, was not seriously injured.
During the investigation, a Roadside Screening Device was used, and the driver was taken to the OPP detachment for further testing. The test results showed that the driver’s blood alcohol concentration was more than double the legal limit. Speed and alcohol are believed to have contributed to the crash.
As a result, Terrence James West, a 64-year-old man from Pembroke, has been charged with operating a vehicle while impaired by alcohol, operating a vehicle with a blood alcohol concentration over the legal limit, and dangerous operation of a vehicle.
West’s driver’s licence was suspended for 90 days, and his vehicle was towed and impounded for seven days. He was released and is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Pembroke on April 7. The incident highlights the dangers of impaired and dangerous driving.
