Two residents from Pembroke are facing a series of charges after a snowmobile incident in Riverside Park on March 4. The two men, both 27 years old, were seen driving their Motorized Snow Vehicles (MSV) recklessly in the park by officers from the Upper Ottawa Valley (UOV) Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP).
At around 10:30 p.m., OPP officers noticed the snowmobiles, which had modified exhausts, being driven carelessly. When the officers attempted to stop the drivers, they ignored the police and continued to drive. However, the officers remained in the area and were able to stop both snowmobiles shortly after.
As a result of the incident, the two drivers are each facing charges under the Motorized Snow Vehicle Act (MSVA). These charges include improper mufflers, failing to stop for police, careless driving, driving without insurance, and failing to notify authorities of a change in ownership.
One of the drivers is facing additional charges, including failing to have a working headlight, not notifying authorities of a change of address, failing to display a registration number, failing to show proof of permit, and driving an MSV without a trail permit. Both snowmobiles were towed by police.
