A driver is facing Criminal Code charges following a single-vehicle crash in the Upper Ottawa Valley on February 9. The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to the collision at approximately 5:00 p.m. on Highway 17 in Laurentian Hills. The vehicle lost control and hit the guard rails near Josie Lane. While the driver was not seriously injured, further investigation revealed that the driver had a blood alcohol level more than three times the legal limit.
The OPP used a Roadside Screening Device, and the driver, 30-year-old Magdalena Slominski of Sault Ste. Marie, was taken into custody for additional tests. Police also discovered open alcohol in the vehicle. Slominski has been charged with “Operation while impaired – alcohol” and “Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration 80mg plus.”
As a result of the incident, the accused’s driver’s licence was suspended for 90 days, and the vehicle was impounded for seven days. Slominski was released and is scheduled to appear in Pembroke’s Ontario Court of Justice on March 3.
