The human remains discovered following a fire last week in Bancroft have been identified as the homeowner. The fire occurred at a residence on Meadow Court on Tuesday, February 4, shortly after 8:00 p.m. Officers from the Bancroft Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), along with other emergency services, responded to the scene.
An investigation, led by the Bancroft Crime Unit in cooperation with the Office of the Fire Marshal and the Office of the Chief Coroner, has determined that the fire was not suspicious in nature. The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Authorities are continuing to provide support to the community as they work through this tragic event.
The identity of the homeowner has not yet been released, pending further investigation.
