Those planning to hit Muskrat Lake for the annual ice fishing derby have been given one last update from their hosts.
The Cobden Civitan Club is reminding participants that they do not recommend using cars, trucks, and other vehicles on the ice along the lake surface, adding that anyone who does so will be doing it at their own risk.
The lake’s current conditions have around 15 inches of black ice as the Civitan Club warns all guests to drive slowly and to be cautious of ice ridges along the surface, which could be hiding structurally weak ice, cracked surfaces, or open water.
The event gets underway this Saturday, February 1st, with the Junior Derby along the boat launch at 7:00 am, followed by the main event from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm.
A full layout of the competition area, including access points onto the ice and parking, can be found here.
