The Upper Ottawa Valley (UOV) Detachment, in collaboration with the Ministry of Transportation (MTO), conducted a comprehensive safety inspection initiative targeting taxis, tow trucks, and Commercial Motor Vehicles (CMVs) in the City of Pembroke on August 21, 2024. The operation focused on ensuring the mechanical safety of these vehicles.
During the initiative, OPP and MTO officers inspected 12 taxis, resulting in six of them being taken out of service due to unfit conditions. Additionally, two sets of license plates were surrendered. Six tow trucks were also inspected, leading to one set of plates being removed by authorities and another set surrendered by the owner. Two CMVs were inspected, with one being placed out of service.
A total of five charges were laid under the Highway Traffic Act (HTA) for various offences, including improper brakes and failure to conduct pre-trip inspections.
The OPP has indicated that further CMV safety initiatives will take place throughout 2024, with officers continuing to remain vigilant for violations that compromise road safety.
