On Wednesday evening at 7:24 p.m., the Pembroke Fire Department responded to a structure fire on Riverside Drive. The department dispatched one pumper truck and the duty crew, calling for additional assistance.
As firefighters responded, reports indicated that a resident might still be inside the home, potentially requiring a rescue. Upon arrival, heavy smoke was seen billowing from the home, though no flames were visible. Firefighters conducted a search to ensure all occupants had safely evacuated.
The fire was quickly brought under control, with damage confined to the second floor of the home. Fortunately, the blaze did not spread to adjoining units. Eleven firefighters and two fire trucks were involved in the operation.
No injuries were reported, but the lone occupant of the home has been displaced. The Red Cross has been contacted to assist with their needs. As a precaution, a neighboring family of four was also temporarily evacuated and is receiving support from the Red Cross.
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by the Pembroke Fire Department. Notably, a second-floor smoke alarm was not found during the incident, highlighting the importance of working smoke alarms for early detection and safety.
