The Eganville Leader is for sale.
In a recent front-page story, publisher Gerald Tracey announced the news that the 123-year-old community newspaper is on the market.
Tracey said the decision to seek a buyer, the hardest he’s ever had to make, was made after much thought and discussion and is based solely on age.
Tracey said he believes there is one party seriously interested and discussions are underway.
His hope is to find a successor who will carry on the history and legacy of the newspaper.
The Leader, one of Renfrew County’s oldest community newspapers, was founded in 1902 by Patrick McHugh. Ambrose and Sylvester Tracey bought it in 1944. Ambrose became the sole owner in 1962 and when he died in 1968, his eldest son Ron continued as publisher. In 1972, Gerald joined Ron, who retired in 2009.
