A brand new event is coming to downtown Pembroke in August. The Inaugural Downtown Pembroke Buskerfest to be held August 9th and 10th. Buskerfest is an outdoor festival where street performers, known as buskers, showcase their talents to the public. Manager of the PBIA Bethea Summers gives myFM news a taste of what to expect.
Performers from all over include musicians, jugglers, magicians, acrobats, and other entertainers who perform in public spaces for tips or donations. Summers tells myFM where the idea came from.
There is no entrance fee and the Friday night event they will be collecting donations for the Community Pool.
Saturday August 10th, Buskerfest will take place on Pembroke Street West which will be closed from City Hall to Frank Nighbor Street there will be multiple performance areas that will feature local, national and international talent, attendees can enjoy a variety of acts throughout the day. In addition to the entertainment, there will be a kid’s zone, vendors market, sidewalk sales, street food, activities put on by various downtown businesses and real time art instillation. This is an inclusive event that can fit into everyone’s budget as there is no cost to attend, and enjoy the entertainment.
Buskerfest committee Chair Joanna Els said “The goal of the Buskerfest is to enliven the downtown Pembroke streets with a vibrant celebration of talent. Fostering community engagement and cultural exchange through music, performance, and artistic expression. Creating shared experiences and memories that strengthen social bonds” she added “We are really hoping people from across the area attend in large numbers and bring friends and family so that we can ensure that this becomes an annual event. With the cost of gas people can experience a big city show without having to travel very far”
The event has been made possible by a group of volunteers coming together to form the Buskerfest committee and the generous sponsorships from businesses, individuals and neighbouring communities.
